Study on damage tolerance and remain fatigue life of shattered rim of railway wheels

The shattered rim on railway wheels is increasingly concerned in recent years. Based the failure analysis, mechanism of was revealed. contact stress distribution wheel/rail with inclusions wheel analyzed by ABAQUS. Then field imported into FRANC3D to simulate crack propagation. It found that simulation results were good agreement those obtained experimentally from actual rim, which proves availability simulation. Meanwhile, influence size and location fatigue life evaluated. propagation curves simulation, rolling damage tolerance analysis remaining assessment method proposed.
